I grew up where the fair was the most important event in our small town. My brothers all showed sheep, cows and even chickens at one time are another. My mother entered her quilts and canning .She won many ribbons. I marched in the parade with the band when I was in Jr, High and rode on the float as Fair Queen my senior year of high school. We try to go as family at least on day each year. I love the fair. Dottie ♥
You can get cotten candy at the school down the street and candied apples at the mall...why go to the fair? Now the Texas State Fair is a different story...everyone should go at least once.
No---haven't been to a fair in years and years.... Never went when I was a child ---and only went a few times when I became an adult. I do remember carnivals when a child --but not a fair... AND--when I lived in Texas, I went to the huge rodeos several times.
Oh Dottie your memories of the fair sound like so much fun....that would be wonderful.
My memory seems to be of rain all week, trudging through the mud for a few rides, with the workers yelling and trying to lure you to their attraction..... I did enjoy the buildings with animals and crafts very much. Now the more I hear of the Texas State Fair the more I would like to go....esp. for a world famous corndog!!
Nanny, you should try to come to the Texas State Fair the last weekend... we have big hopes of taking Little Man for his first! Lila would have a good time, too! =)
I wish that you could come to the Cajun Heartland State Fair, held here in Lafayette, at the end of May. It would forever change your mind about state fairs. Lots of great Cajun food and music! :)
I am a sucker for the Texas State Fair! The food, the animals, the pumpkin carver, the food, the people watching, the rides, the food. Did I mention the food? Can't wait to introduce Alex this year. And to the little petting zoo, too! Watch out fair - here we come!
BTW, thought of you this morning. I made my first Pioneer Woman recipe - Egg in the Hole. I made Paula Deen proud with all the butter I put in that pan to soak into the bread. It was delish, and Alex liked his, too! Smiled when I ate it as I thought of you. Hope you have a wonderful day.

Our fair was a month or so ago...we did not attend this year...I don't care for it after going many, many years. BUT, I DO enjoy fair food!!!!!
I have never been! Many of my friends go and their kids show animals..mostly for raising college money. The food sounds yummy though!
I'd have to travel pretty far upstate for our state fair...and someday I will, as I'd love to see it!
I have to admit I love cotton candy. I've always had a sweet tooth :)
