My camera goes everywhere I do. I snap pictures of everything. I think I have this deep seeded thought that I will snap a perfect picture someday! I have come to realize that there is more to this than just snapping...........Step #1. Know your camera
Earlier this week as I was snapping, my camera locked up. A little red light on the back came on and would not go off. I looked closely and it said SD card....ok....to me it was saying the card was not installed properly, full, or just needing attention. So I pulled it out, took another picture and same thing happened. Now I tell you "ignorance is no excuse" and I realize that....instead of reading my manual like I should have, I ruined my camera. The fine print (who reads it?) ......or maybe basic knowledge that I somehow failed to acquire...."You Must Format Your Card".....I have used this card for a year or two, never formatted it and it had become corrupted! Hence the red light, trying to transfer data and could not....
The next day I made a path to Bedford Camera and Video to have camera repaired. I'm like a kid in a candy store when I go to Bedford, I tell myself I should be banned from the store but this was a necessary trip, right? My choice was to spend 4 - 6 weeks without it and pay half the price of a new camera OR just buy a new updated 15.1 mega pixel toy for myself. I have an early Christmas present in my possession!
I have always wanted to attend one of Bedford's classes but they have them in the evening and usually run for 6 weeks. They are having an all day class tomorrow for people who aren't interested in the 6 week class...me! I am determined to know all there is to know about my new Canon and never ruin it!!!
I hope you all are having a wonderful Friday! I am enjoying the cool weather! No A/C, windows up and pancakes for breakfast!

I love the Canon! And, yes, knowing your camera makes all the difference in the world! Which one did you get? Is it point and shoot or a DSLR? Can't wait to see all the new pics you get with it!
I love my canon as well! The number one thing you can do is to read your manual from front to back. Someone gave me that advice way back when and it's the best thing I could have done for understanding my camera. It sounds obvious, but so few of us truly do it!
Have a great weekend!
I never read my manual either. Enjoy your new camera and I can't wait to see the beautiful pictures you will take with it! Happy weekend to you!
Too bad about your camera, but glad you got the new one! The classes sound like fun. Enjoy your new toy and have a great weekend!
That's great, taking the class sounds like fun too.
Congrats Nanny... Which canon did you get? George and I love our Canons... You'll have fun with it!!!!! And be sure and format your card....
Hugs,
Betsy
I'm glad to read this as I'm still trying to learn my new camera! I'd die if I corrupted it! ha. Wish we lived close...I'd love to take some evening photography class with you!
That class sounds great! I'd love to do something like that because there's still so much I don't know about my camera.
By the way, I never got through The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. I really tried, but it just wasn't for me!
Oh, I am so excited for you to have a new camera AND to be attending a class for it!! You'll have to pass on any tidbits you garner that the rest of us might use! LOL! Look forward to seeing photos made with your new prize!
Well, I've learned something. I really didn't know anything about why you need to formatt your card until I took a photo class after I got my Canon Digital SLR (which I love, btw). The instructor taught us that formatting makes the card just like new and erases all of the old data. However, I didn't know until I read this blog that not formatting could actually break your camera. Thanks for the heads up!
I love my Canon point and shoot. I must admit I have never read the manual, only some highlights! I am glad you got yourself a new gift-enjoy!!
Gee, I hope I didn't make that mistake too! I have been looking at your posts...love that chocolate cake..YUM! :D
