Home Sweet Home!

Family came home from the hospital today and are all sleeping at the moment. I don't know who was the happiest today. Grandparents were all overjoyed, parents were ready for a nap in their own bed, Birdie and Cricket are exhausted from sitting by the window.....waiting, and sweet pea seems very relaxed in her new beautiful bedroom.

Any suggestions of good nourshing meals for a new mom?

Very Uncomfortable!

After a restless night, mom to be is napping. Thanks in part to granolachic and her gift of Yogi Tea! A hot bath and a cup of tea, seemed to help. (fingers crossed)
Nothing makes you more tired than "no sleep" not to mention being 38 1/2 weeks pregnant.

Decisions, Decisions

Trixie has always slept in her bed and loved her bed, but lately she has been branching out......

She seems to enjoy the back of the couch...

Or maybe just the couch itself...

I wonder where she will sleep next?

I Don't Think So....but you never know!

Stick Walker

I have to admit I do not know what the name of this "creature" is...My husband called it a stick walker! Sounds like a fitting name to me. I just can't believe this is a living insect/animal/whatever...I mean look at the size of it! It is a work of art!

Remembering Elvis!

Every August Elvis Presley fans from around the world descend on Memphis Tennessee to take part in the annual Elvis Week Celebrations.

Debbie is hosting Elvis story day, she has lots of interesting facts about Elvis so give her a visit! She also has the video of Elvis and Celine that was on American Idol that brings me to tears....it is just too real!!!

My memory of August 16, 1977 is one of being glued to the tv all day and night watching every news program available and hoping it just wasn't true. All this while my sweet little 8 week old baby napped on the sofa!

When I was a little girl my big brother visited Graceland, got a couple of blades of grass from the yard, taped it to an index card, and had some employee (I forget who, but I'll bet he remembers) write on the card that this is from the yard of Elvis Presley. Well I not knowing how special this was to my brother,,,took a pen and just kind of traced over the writing, no big deal, right??? NOT! He was very mad at me but of course I denied the whole thing!!!

Have you seen Finding Graceland? It is several years old but I loved it!
The King of Rock-n-Roll lives! On his way across New Mexico, Byron Gruman picks up a hitch-hiking impersonator who says he's Elvis Presley really. Skeptical and trying to shake the memory of his wife's death, Byron just wants to drop Elvis off at his Memphis destination. Instead, he finds himself won over by this King, much like everyone they meet including a sexy Marilyn Monroe look-alike. Featuring a scene that was shot inside the Graceland Mansion thanks to Priscilla Presley's involvement as executive producer. With Harvey Keitel, Bridget Fonda, Johnathon Schaech.

Have a good Sunday All!

Visitor!

When I got home today I had a visitor in the pool! He seemed to be enjoying the water but I lifted him out with the net and he scurried off as fast as his little legs would go. Guess he had enough of the pool for one day! I've never seen a turtle go so fast through the grass!

Have a good evening all!!

Breakfast Sandwich!

I'll bet many of you have never had a BLT with egg as a breakfast sandwich! If you have not had one please make one while you have fresh tomatoes!!! I like to whisk the egg like making omelet for my sandwich. Lots of "miracle whip", salt and pepper! Good, good!

While we are on the subject of sandwiches, I'll share my compulsion about first bites with you/ha When I put the top piece of bread on.....I have to take a bite immediately..don't move plate until tasted!!! This was brought to my attention many years ago (I hadn't ever noticed it) but it is true! Well a couple of weeks ago my brother and sis in law were here for the weekend and I made BLT & egg sandwiches for breakfast. Assembled sandwich for sis in law and was about to pick up plate and move to table and she said "Wait, let me taste it". I got so tickled,,,,,,evidently it is not just me with this trait. Have any of you noticed yourself tasting your sandwich before moving it? Or is this just in our funny family????

You Must Be Kidding!

Stopped by the bait shop to buy some bait (worms) to go fishing in our pond. Need some fresh catfish to eat! The label on box reads:

CONTENTS NOT FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION!!!
I don't know about your family, but I don't think any of mine would consume these...........

Maybe on Survivor....but not around here!
P.S. the fish didn't even consume them, forced to have leftovers!

Storm Over!

We are left with a gorgeous sky!

As it moved to the east I stood outside and was determined to get a picture of lightning! This is the first one I have ever gotten. It is very difficult! You have to more or less freeze in a position and hold shuttle half down! There was quiet alot of lightning so I actually got two shots (out of 30)!!!!

I'm glad it is out of our area and hope the folks to the east are safe!

Ominous!

6 PM and it is rolling in!!! Hope it is not The Perfect Storm! Wish you could hear the thunder!

The Perfect Storm

The Perfect Storm is on HBO this month. Do you remember the first time you saw this wonderful movie? I do, Destin, FL with Solar, Granolachic, and Sara. I didn't want to go, I wanted to stay in room and sleep, but they made me go and I am so glad I did. It was just so good and I still love it to this day!!! We had so much fun on our annual trip to the beach!!! Just girls in the sun!!!! Maybe some putt, putt, and go carts and lots of crab legs!

Pimento Cheese Sandwich

Do you like pimento cheese sandwiches? I love them. I have never made them with a recipe that included cream cheese until I tried Bobby Deens' recipe. His momma taught him well!!!! I made one or two small changes, but you might like his recipe more than mine:

1 3-ounce package cream cheese
1 cup grated sharp cheddar cheese (sharp has a great flavor)
1 cup grated monterey jack cheese
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1/2 tsp Paula Deen's House Seasoning (this is salt, pepper & garlic) I left this out
2 to 3 T pimentos
1 tsp grated onion (I used sweet pickle relish, drained) don't want onion in my pimento cheese sandwich, guess it is because mom used pickle relish
Cracked black pepper (well maybe a little)

Using an electric mixer, beat softened cream cheese until smooth and fluffy. Add all of the remaining ingredients and beat until well blended.

I have been searching for these sandwich thins since I saw them in a magazine and finally WalMart has them,

They make a very good sandwich, not heavy on the bread and I only hope WalMart keeps them. I hate it when I really like an item and they decide not to stock it anymore!!!

Add a few chips and a Dr. Pepper and you have a tasty lunch! (or I do...ha)

Shredded Beef Sandwiches

Crock Pot Wednesday Inaugural Event – Hosted by Dining with Debbie. You must check out the wonderful gifts to be given away by Debbie.

I, like Debbie, had as my first crockpot the beautiful green rival....brings back memories....

I love my current "slow cooker" Westbend Crockery Cooker. Settings include Warm, Low and High. I love the warm setting after dish is done but not time to eat, or for keeping dip ready to eat.

I seem to use my cooker more in the winter, since most of my recipes are for soup and chili. I am looking forward to the Wednesday recipes and to using my cooker much more in hot weather.

I do like the Shredded Beef Sandwich recipe below and make it in the summer.

1 boneless chuck roast (about 4 lbs)
1 large onion, thinly sliced
1 cup ketchup
1/4 cup lemon juice
3 T Worcestershire sauce
2 T vinegar
2 T brown sugar
1 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
1/2 tsp liquid smoke
Hamburger Buns

Cut roast in half; place in a slow cooker. Top with onion. Combine the next eight ingredients; pour over roast. Cover and cook on low for 8 - 9 hours or until the meat is tender. Remove roast and cool slightly; shred meat with two forks. Skim fat from cooking liquid. return meat to slow cooker; heat through. Using a clotted spoon, place on bun and top with your choice of slaw, sauce, etc.

Folks I have been up since 3 AM after hearing tornado siren going off. Front has passed, leaving only rain (yep again) but I have already put in a full day....laundry, made bed, showered, cooked breakfast, "Blogged" and am ready for a nap. Seriously!

Burp Cloth !

I found baby L the cutest monogrammed burp cloth this week!!! Now is this too pretty to use? ha Of course her cloth has an L on it. Baby clothes, accessories, furniture have all changed so much since I have been shopping for them....it is amazing. They all seem so colorful and adorable. I love the taggies that many items have on them. When my 10 year old grandson was a baby, it did not matter what you bought him, if it had a tag on it he was content. He would sure be happy to be a baby now, everything has many tags on it.

My new granddaughter should be here in 4 weeks "Or Less". I'm thinking I should probably pack my bag just in case, what do you think?????

Wet Ground

Friday was the only day that we haven't had rain in a week!!! All of that rain means I can not mow, which means I have the prettiest mushrooms growing in the yard.

We had more rain this July than we have had in many, many years! Usually the grass is brown and dry and the sprinklers are on daily. Weeds have flourished this summer.................Storms in the forecast for the rest of today and tonight. The outdoor wedding we are going to tonight should be interesting. Poor bride and her sweet mother who have worked for months on this special occasion. I hope they get a break for the ceremony....
