Theme Thursday....Flight
This is one flight that I would NOT want to take!!!!
Check out the truck in the background! He had a "birds eye view"
The bad thing is: this guy was spraying chemical on the rice...I wouldn't want to be that close to the stuff!!!! Hope he had his windows up! Crop dusters are a breed all their own!!!! You couldn't pay me enough to fly this close to the ground or power lines........

Boo!
I just can't believe this year is almost gone and now the holidays are approaching. This morning I saw pumpkins and mums everywhere I looked. The roadside stands are so pretty.
I especially love this stand. All summer the young man that owns the stand has the freshest tomatoes, peas, corn, okra, etc. He made this wagon and takes special orders for them. He had polio as a child and has been in a wheelchair all of his life. He works everyday and is very industrious. I love to stop by and visit with him. He had a bait shop in the little building in the background but found it was too hard to go back and forth from it to the market by himself. He always has a smile and a friendly greeting for everyone. He has so many pumpkins, I can't believe it!
Small pumpkin, large pumpkin, orange, red, white..
I have a hard time deciding....purple, yellow, bronze,,,,what's a girl to do?
One of these babies will make enough pies for a city!!!
I can't decide what color I want. I am sure whatever I buy it will not include the $30. pumpkin/ha Have you put up any arrangements for halloween or fall? I would love to see yours. I need help!!!

I'm Alive!
I love it when I hear a song and it appeals to me from the first note til the last. So is the case when I heard the duet of Kenney Chesney and Dave Matthews, I'm Alive!
It has a message I love and the melody is relaxing and beautiful.
"So darn easy to say that life's so hard
Everbody's got there share of battle scars
As for me I'd like to thank my lucky stars that I'm alive and well
It'd be easy to add up all the pain
And all the dreams you sat and watched go up in flames,
Dwell on the wreckage as it smolders in the rain
But not me....
I'm alive and today that's good enough for me
Breathing in and out's a blessing can't you see
Today's the first day of the rest of my life and I'm alive and well."
Have a great day all!

Time with Lila
My week went by way too fast for me. It is so hard to leave this precious little girl. I could sit and rock, (or stand and bounce) this girl all day and never get dressed or leave the house. I now see why Solar has a hard time completing those small tasks,ha. The day is over before you realize it.
We rocked early in the morning and let mom get a little more sleep..
We talked and talked, she is trying so hard to talk and smiles so sweetly. It is just amazing how much they learn in 4 short weeks..
We went out for lunch, of course I sat in the back with Lila and we talked until she fell asleep.
I am now counting the days until I get to see sweetpea again! It was a great trip. I have a wonderful daughter and son in law that share their little girl with me and let me spoil her!!! Their home is filled with love and laughter and it is a joy to stay with them. Lila is one fortunate little girl!
I hope you all have a great weekend!

My Tribute!
72 Years! How do you pay tribute to a program that has survived for 72 years?
Irma Phillips wrote these words in 1937, "I created 'Guiding Light' with one fundamental theme in mind: the brotherhood of man." Who could have imagined that that breathtakingly simple intention, written at the beginning of FDR's second term as president, would carry the show for 72 years!
Guiding Light began on the radio in 1937 and continued it's broadcast until 1952, with it's first TV episode on June 30, 1952. Tomorrow, September 18, the last episode will air, ending an era...
The show was built around the Bauer Family; Charita, Meta, Papa and Bill. It soon grew to include the Thorpe, Stapleton, Spaulding, Marler, Chamberlain and Lewis families. Many more passed through but these became the families that all were related to.
My mother was a faithful viewer all of her life and I grew to like the show thru her loyalty. If a current event aired "instead" of her shows..not soaps..they were Her Shows...her frustration was apparent. She worried about what she might have missed!
When I moved from home into college we did not have TVs in our rooms, but one in the lounge and everyone gathered at some time of the day to watch a soap. CBS always seemed to be the most popular and was I glad. I didn't want to miss anything either....
After I got married and had my girls, I went back to work and we did not have a VCR. My sweet daughters place a cassette player in front of the TV and recorded Guiding Light for me!!!! I laugh so much thinking about listening to those tapes at night and then erasing them for the next day! I think I spent my first paycheck on a VCR.
A few of my favorite memories of the show are:
Josh and Reva
All I ever wanted was for these two to be happily married!!! Every time they got close to happiness tragedy struck! I pulled for them for YEARS, and Reva died more times than I can remember/ha I really think Friday these two will ride into the sunset together....I Hope!
Phillip, Mindy, Rick and Beth
How many years of these four did we enjoy? Every story line they had captured our attention. These four were so special to the show. Phillip asked Beth to marry him (again) yesterday....of course she has been married to his dad also!!! Speaking of his dad, the great Alan Spaulding died yesterday on the show. If the show was not ending I know he would return/ha
I will miss Guiding Light. I feel like I am losing a friend.
Congratulations to the cast and all of the writers,,,Job Well Done! Good Luck to all of you and I hope to see you again!

I Want A Choice!!
Last week I was in Wal Mart buying groceries and the isles were filled with workers...Ok, nothing wrong with that. I thought they were just rearranging as they were stocking shelves. They usually put the store brand stuff at eye level and move the name brands to the lower shelves....but that was not the case! They have removed almost all brands and are forcing one to buy the Wal Mart brand of "Everything". Food and nonfood items....I got the last bottle of Lea & Perrins Worcestershire Sauce, to be replaced with some sort of "thick worcestershire" Don't think so!
Today I went in our local grocery store for a few items and the same thing was happening. All brands removed and only Best Choice brand on shelves. I bought their vinegar, I mean vinegar is vinegar, but I want my French's Mustard, my Heinz Ketchup and even my Hunts Diced Tomatoes. I think store brands are great if you choose to buy them but taking my choice away from me makes me furious.. The loss of my business won't hurt them I am sure but I will shop where I have a choice from now on! I realize that many items are made in the same factory and put in different brand boxes but that is not my point!!! I'll be willing to bet that they charge the higher price we were paying for the brands, for the store brand now!
Wow I am glad I got that off my chest! ha
Have a good evening!!! We are having floods of rain here!

Game Hens and Rice
This is a favorite of ours. It is an easy recipe and can be made for company without spending much time in the kitchen. Add a salad and bread and you have a great meal. This recipe is for 2 so just adjust it for more. I think you will really like it.
2 - 1 lb. game hens
2 tbsp chopped onion
1/3 cup uncooked Uncle Ben's (or any brand) long grain wild rice
3 tbsp oleo (I used butter)
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup water
1 chicken bouillon cube
1 tsp lemon juice
1/2 cup (or more) chopped mushrooms
Salt and pepper hens, inside and out. Cook onion, mushrooms and rice in butter 5 -10 minutes. Add water, bouillon cube, lemon juice and salt. Bring to a boil stirring to dissolve cube. Reduce heat, cover, cook on low for 20 - 25 minutes or until liquid is absorbed and rice is fluffy. Lightly stuff birds with rice mixture. Brush with melted butter. Roast covered at 400 deg. for 30 minutes. Uncover and roast 1 hour longer.
Have a good evening all.
I leave you with this:
Thanks for the memories, we love you Patrick,

All We Need Is Power And Water!
Well the pool house project is winding down! (I thought) All we need is power and water.......BUT that involves this:
The power and water hookups happen to be in the front of the house....poolhouse is in the back!!
How in the world did the electric company lay this line???? Zigzag??
Guess we had better lay a new line from the front to back instead of finding the old line!!! People, if you know me you know that I planted, fertilized, watered and mowed every blade of this grass that they so easily dig up!!!
I know you are saying that there isn't any grass where they are digging....that's another story in itself. While pulling a sprayer, someone sat on the hand wand (on accident) spraying about a 4 foot section all along the drive, with industrial strength poison/ha
See the defined Dead section/ha
I have a "Promise" from my husband that he will fix the yard the way I had it......chuckle, chuckle.....
Oh well, it will be nice when it is all completed! I'll show you pictures of the finished project (someday)

September At My House!
In the south, or at least at my house September means one thing. Yes, fall is in the air, it is cool, it is damp and Squirrel Season is open! I know you are saying yuck, I would never eat squirrel but let me tell you folks, they are simply delicious!!!! Imagine if you can eating fried chicken with the flavor multiplied by 10!!! They are much smaller than chicken but every bite is just filled with flavor...
And nothing goes with squirrel like fried potatoes...
And everybody knows when you fry this much you are left with....a mess...grease...
The price you pay for a good September meal!!!

Bounce Dryer Bar
Have you tried this little jewel? I just purchased one and really hope it lives up to it's promise. Two Months of Freshness and No Static! And the best part is I don't have to remember to put it in the dryer for EVERY load of clothes. I put a sheet in the dryer, start the dryer and then wonder if I really put a sheet in or did I just intend to put one in....stop dryer, dig through wet heavy clothes, searching for dryer sheet....This will relieve me of one worry/ha I'll let you know how long it lasts.....

Can't say no!
Halloween candy is on the shelves and I cannot say no to candy corn!!! I know when I indulge in this one that I am going to get a headache but it is just so good!!! I nibbled on my "first" sack in Dallas and yes, I got a headache the following morning. Non Aspirin-Aspirin from Granddaddy cured this one. I carefully waited to try the "second" sack after eating a meal and did not get a headache; but who wants to eat candy corn on a full stomach????

Apple Pie
When a friend brought me a sack of fresh picked apples, I didn't hesitate to run to grocery store and buy a pack of Pillsbury pie crusts and begin peeling the apples. I remember when I would cringe at the thought of store bought crust, but have since come to the conclusion that they aren't so bad, and soo easy...... What do you think??? Do you make your crust or use Pillsbury? Pie was delicious but a bit runny...maybe the apples? It didn't stop me from enjoying it and will again tonight.
I love settling in and having dessert. (then I doze off)
Have a good evening all!
