Any Ideas?

The umbrella cover over the feeder is designed to keep squirrels OFF! The squirrels in my yard are not aware of this, obviously. I have seen them jump from the ground, straight UP to the feeder. I raised it higher and don't know if that's how they are getting on the feeder or are dropping down from the tree. That's how they got on before I put the cover on. It was funny to watch them drop and land right on! Pesky little varmints!!! I know they have to eat too but they won't stop until they wipe out every feeder, completely.

One to many jumps on this one......

Trixie chases them up a tree for me and then she waits and waits and waits for them to come back down. She loves the chase, but bless her heart they go down the opposite side of the tree and are gone. She doesn't have a clue, she is frozen looking up. She has so much patience. I've seen her sit in one spot for hours!

A break in the rain has brought the birds out to eat too. I think they are preparing for the next round of downpour.

Guess I'll go out and hang the downed one and fill the others.

Not for you squirrels....do you hear me??? Go eat some nuts!!!

What cute pictures, even of the pesky squirrels. We have tried so many different contraptions to keep the little varmits out but they always find a way. I must confess that sometimes I have a good laugh watching their antics.
I used to have a feeder that closed under the weight of a squirrel, they didn't give up until they knocked it out of the tree...I finally gave up!

Cute. The pictures, the story, the birds, and the squirrel. I have seen my mother in law fight off squirrels, don't think it is winning battle. I think the squirrels are fun to watch.

Oh we don't have squirrels, but I do know that they can really be a problem with the bird feeders. Sure wish I knew the solution.
Thanks for reading Laura's story, I knew it would truly inspire anyone that would read it. Hugs, Marty

Oh My---everyone has a problem. I do have one blog friend who ordered a stand alone thingee for her bird feeders (all of them). She got it from Birds Unlimited I think... It was probably expensive --but after we pay for all of the extra birdseed, it might be worth our while to get one. She said it was working so far.

I think the squirrels can do most anything. I do NOT think they are cute or funny. I'm sorry but I cannot stand them. I fight with them constantly because I don't want them in or around the bird feeders.

Wish I had an answer for you, Nanny... It's a problem for most of us who feed the birds.

Hugs,
Betsy

I'm jealous of your cardinal photos...mine around here are very camera shy...I don't think there is anything you can do to stop a squirrel....

I love your bird feeders...I enjoy watching SO MUCH. As for the squirrels? They are such agile little brats! Can't help you with those pesky creatures!
Have a wonderful Sunday Nanny!

We also bought this metal disk like thing that hangs over our feeder, but there's always one squirrel that can hang upside down and some how get their front paws onto the feeder, flipping over and set there and eat & eat till it's gone or knocked out onto the ground, then the birds get to eat to. Once in a while it foes fall down. They are regular little pigs, no matter how much you put out, there seem to be more squirrels.
