Cedar - Part II

Well it appears that the bright orange things in the cedar tree are called Cedar-Apple Rust.
Very complex and deadly fungus, esp. to apple trees. The wind can carry the spores up to 3 miles!! I don't have any apple trees, but I don't if any neighbors do......

OH MY! We have this same fungus in our Cedars for the FIRST time! Hubbie thought that it was a flower too and looked it up. Isn't it a STRANGE looking specimen??????

Thank you so much - Mom says thank you, too, for finding out about it! I had no idea how to go about it myself

I read part one first...loved the way you were able to use the trees...the mantle is beautiful and so is the bar. Yes I have a cedar chest. We called them a hope chest...very old fashioned for the now-a-day woman. Yikes about the fungus. That is scary. Wonder if you should spray the tree or something. I am sure you will find out (o:

I knew that thing had the look of a fungi!! It is so wild how many of them there are and this is their first time... conditions must have been perfect for proliferation!!

Oh my ..this can't be good for the tree!? When I looked at the photos in the prior post it did look like some sort of flower. I'm going to look at the link to learn more. Good luck getting rid of it!

PS Love your cedar mantle and bar top!

Oh My----Hope your neighbors don't have apple trees. That's a shame. Do you know what causes the fungus???? Does it harm the cedars???

I grew up using Cedar trees as Christmas trees. That was about all your could get back then in VA.. They smelled good--but were 'scratchy'...

Hugs,
Betsy
