Volunteer

I think the flowers/plants that choose to grow without being planted, watered, and babied are the strongest ones.  I have several of these this year.

This particular one amazes me.....just look at it

Growing up through the gravel, in the circle drive. I mean this tomato must be hearty. I so hope that it will make a tomato. I am taking pictures of it daily/ha It is blooming. Do you think I should water and fertilize it? I'm scared I'll interfer with its plan if I do.
I was pulling weeds from another bed and almost plucked this one out of the ground!
Lastly I have a beautiful sunflower growing so straight and tall. It came up under the birdfeeder filled with sunflower seeds. I have several each year but usually cut them down, as they are in the yard and get mowed. This one is in the flower bed and I have loved watching it grow so fast. I can't wait to see it bloom, (fingers crossed)
Have a good day all. I'm breaking away from the desk and paperwork to run errands.......

They are lovely volunteers. It will be fun to follow along with you to see what they do over the course of the summer.

Thanks for stopping by my blog today. As I posted about tomatoes, too, I see great minds think alike!

I love sunflowers. Can't wait to see him bloom. I can't keep a flower alive for anything and you have them popping up in the gravel!!!

Hi There, We get some 'volunteers' around here also. Several years ago, we used to plant Impatiens every year. The rabbits ate them --so I quit planting them. BUT--there are some volunteers that come up every year... (AND--they are supposedly annuals!!!! ha)

Did I miss something on your blog? Do you have a new grandbaby?
Hugs,
Betsy

Hi Nanny, It was good of you to comment on my orchids.. as for how to grow them I really don't do much. Depending on where you live. Mine are all outdoors. I keep them growing each year in a simple orchid pot, or right on the bark of my oak tree. After they bloom I ignore them until the winter (here in SoFla) is over then start to feed them every two weeks.. for about three months and they bloom again. As for your wilting orchid.. just clip the flower stems and put in an orchid medium, in a sunny spot indoors or anywhere you want outdoors if its a zone 9 or 10 there,, I don't ever water them except to run the hose spray over them if we have not had any rain, every two weeks. Don't feed once you see a flower stem starting.. I love Orchids and it's so much easier to grow and keep them down here... Good luck because that is what it takes with these finikie plants...
Thanks again for your visit.

I'd water the tomatoes if it gets really hot and dry but other than that it looks like they are doing well for surprise plants :) I love sunflowers and this one looks like a beauty!

I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you. I am not having much luck with my tomato plants here in Hawaii. They used to grow so well in Illinois. Sigh... must be our soil or my brown thumb.

haha...those volunteers will probably give you more tomatoes than the ones in the garden! How fun!

A volunteer sunflower sounds great to me! I'm disappointed to not find any in my gardens this year. The squirrels have cleaned up after themselves very well, I fear.

Oh, that sunflower plant is beautiful!! So strong and straight... I am looking forward to seeing it bloom!! ;)

I vote for feeding and watering the tomato plant!! It is a strong survivor; maybe it would THRIVE with food and water. But, don't listen to me! LOL! I don't have a single thing growing this year. blessings ~ tanna

I, too, am often amazed at plants that manage to break through concrete and gravel. Tenacity. Can't wait to see your sunflower!
