Friday Favorites - Screen Door

I got a funny look from my husband when I asked for a screen door.  He replied that he had not seen a screen door in a very long time.  You see, I didn't want a fancy one, nor a metal one that you raise the glass if you want air.  No, I wanted an old fashion screen door, complete with spring and hook latch.
Evidently, I am not the only one that likes these doors because Lowe's had a good variety of styles and colors.......

Isn't it perfect?

The hardware hasn't changed through the years......

Just what I wanted, and just how I remember it.
You know they say the sense of smell can take you back to a place in time in an instant. For me sound has worked the same magic. Do you (most of you aren't old enough, I know) remember the sound of the screen door slamming? Did you ever know anyone who turned around upon exiting and quietly shut the door? No, that's what the spring is for....so in an instant I was taken back to a point in my life where everything seemed simple and laid back with the mere sound of the screen door slamming.

It is beautiful Nanny. Fits perfectly.

My folks (although they live in a newer home) have a screen door and you can be SURE that when we are there my kids SLAM it over and over!

Have a wonderful weekend.

This did bring back memories. Didn't your folks always yell after you: "Don't slam the door!" and din't you always just let it go anyway? I like the pretty shape of the screen door corners.

Yep! I remember the slamming of a screen door quite well. Moth balls reminds me of my Aunt Dot -- she must have used them for something long ago. And when I smell Oil of Olay or Cover Girl Foundation, I am taken immediately back to my Mammaw's house. The first time I came out of her bedroom with make-up on, my dad said "You better wash your face or I'll wash it for you." I was about 12. Of course, at 14 when I wanted to pierce my ears, he said if God had wanted holes in my ears he would have put them there. HA! Well, that was a trip down memory lane! :) Enjoy your screen door. Best wishes, Tammy

That's something I've been wanting for such a looong time... I have a front door & that's it... no air at all & I want that slam sound, too... reminds me of being at my g'mas as a kid!

RE your comment on the storm cellar: No we didn't go in cuz it was on private property & those people down there would shoot & ask questions later! LoL! =)

Beautiful screen:) We just installed a screen door on one of our back doors this past summer, and I love having it. It really helps to cool down the house in the evening time:)

Your new door is a beauty!

I also remember the wonderful squeak the screen door made when it was opened! It was as if it was saying "welcome home."

I love screen doors too! The sweet sounds of summer, that's what they remind me of. :) I know that most people in the NW still have screen doors, maybe we're just really old-fashioned or something. ;) We do have a lot of mosquitoes in summer, probably because we have a lot of damp areas up here. I loved this post, thanks for bringing back childhood memories! :D

I laughed out loud when I read this- I have been hoping for a wood screen door this year as well. All of my neighbors have those fancy year 'round ones you change out for winter and summer, but I want one that slams when I come in from the patio! I'm going to check Lowes right now.

can you also hear.."Don't let that door slam."
Why on earth was there a spring if we could not let it SLAM.
Yes, I could totally go back in time to my tiny house and screen door.

Screen doors are wonderful for letting in fresh air. This one is very, very nice. Lowe's? Hmmm. There's a Lowe's in a large town near where I live.
