Fresh Asparagus

asparagus 034 by tempstarman
I love fresh asparagus.

I tried a new sauce for it and can't stop eating it.  I baked the asparagus in a 400 degree oven for approximately 12 minutes.  Just long enough to cook it somewhat but still have that good crunch.  Melt 2 T of butter, add 1 T soy sauce, (I use the low sodium), 1 tsp balsamic vinegar (I love the white one) and drizzle over the asparagus.  Delicious.  I put the remaining sauce by my plate and dip mine in it.  The combination of flavors really suits my taste buds.  Anything with balsamic on it or in it makes my mouth water.

Now What?

No, I'll have to admit this isn't my refrigerator. I'm not nearly that good at arranging and stacking the leftovers. In the first place I have many bowls but none of my many lids seem to fit......what's up with that?

I wish I knew how many times I have turned the dishwasher on in the last 4 days. I'm sure if it could speak it would be yelling, "Give Me A Break".

We have eaten all we care to eat of it all and the rest is.....going! I made turkey salad sandwiches for lunch (pretty good) and I think that about wraps up the leftovers.

I tried a recipe for the turkey that I got from The Chew. It was the best turkey I have ever made. So moist and juicy. I will definitely use it from now on. If you would like to read it, go to thechew.com. It is the one Michael Symon made. He soaked cheesecloth in melted butter/chicken broth/herbs and covered the turkey with it while baking. Then I also took Rachael Ray's hint of wrapping the pan after removing from oven, tightly with foil and laying a big bath towel over it all and let it rest for an hour. I am bad about not letting meat rest and I think that might have been a big factor in the moistness.

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving and a restful weekend. We enjoyed ours very much (except the game)

Rain is falling and the temperature is reportedly going to follow.....  Winter is approaching! 65 today and 43 tomorrow...wow!

Gloomy Monday

It's pretty much a black and white day.  Fog, rain, off and on, just gloomy.

I navigated the crowd at Wal Mart to get the grocery shopping done. (many others had the same idea)

We have a business in town that does nothing but shell pecans.  It's a big operation and they were so busy today.  I bought a large sack to put in freezer after making a couple of pecan pies for Thursday.

Pot of vegetable soup (made from leftover stew) is simmering and making the house smell wonderful.

Spent a few minutes on my elliptical.....I have forgotten how much it hurts.  (or maybe I'm just horribly out of shape....yep that's it)

And now I'm off to read many blogs and catch up with my friends.   Are any of you on Pinterest?  It's my newest addiction!  Would love to follow you if you are. If you'd like an invite, let me know.

I hope you all are having a great Monday and maybe some sunshine.

Buyer Beware!

New technology makes me scratch my head!

Don't get me wrong, I am all about high-efficiency but this is ridiculous!

I had been warned by my daughter that her front loading, new style, no water, blah, blah, blah washer made her towels.....how shall I say it.....stink....!

Two months ago I was forced to buy new washer, dryer set.  I knew I didn't want the front loader style so opted for top loading high efficiency Whirlpool Cabrio set.

Weeks pass and I start to smell "the odor".  Yesterday I paid a visit to Lowe's to discuss the smell.  A very nice manager asked me if I was using the recommended detergent and tub cleaner...yes, I do.  Then he asked the magic question,  "Do you leave your washer door open when not in use"?  Well  No.  I wasn't told to leave the door open at all times.  After talking about my options, he offered to give me a new washer to start over with.  (once the odor is there it is very difficult to remove it)

So tomorrow they are delivering a new Whirlpool plus giving me $100 refund (new one is on sale)
Lowe's treated me more than fairly.  They have a 7 day exchange policy.

I'll let you know how leaving the door/top open works.  I just wanted you to be aware of this in case you purchase a new washer.

P.S.  You can't buy the agitator style anymore!!!  New style sprays water in and calls that a rinse!!

Killing Lincoln

I know you have heard about the newly released novel by Bill O'Reilly & Martin Dugard, entitled, Killing Lincoln.  I have always been fascinated by stories of President Lincoln and admit that I don't remember all that I should from history class.  When I saw Bill on The View talking about his historical thriller, I couldn't wait to read it.

The authors recount the weeks leading up to and immediately following the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, from the final days of the Civil War to the manhunt for John Wilkes Booth, the man who quickly became the country's most wanted fugitive as the prime suspect in Lincoln's death.

I learned so much from reading this book and thoroughly enjoyed it. Read it for pleasure + history lesson. I didn't know (or forgot) that the original plan was to assassinate the Vice President Andrew Johnson, Ulysses Grant and Secretary of State Seward along with President Lincoln. Do you remember that John Wilkes Booth was an actor and very popular with the ladies?

It made for a very interesting read and I recommend it to you all! I wish more of history was written in this manner. Loved it! Five Stars Bill!!!
