The authors recount the weeks leading up to and immediately following the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, from the final days of the Civil War to the manhunt for John Wilkes Booth, the man who quickly became the country's most wanted fugitive as the prime suspect in Lincoln's death.
I learned so much from reading this book and thoroughly enjoyed it. Read it for pleasure + history lesson. I didn't know (or forgot) that the original plan was to assassinate the Vice President Andrew Johnson, Ulysses Grant and Secretary of State Seward along with President Lincoln. Do you remember that John Wilkes Booth was an actor and very popular with the ladies?
It made for a very interesting read and I recommend it to you all! I wish more of history was written in this manner. Loved it! Five Stars Bill!!!

The whole story of Lincoln's assassination is incredible. There's so much that people don't know about. I remember seeing the chair that Lincoln was shot on at Greenfield Village in Michigan. It made it so real and even more terrible.
Hey now Nanny I will check this out!
I have a friend that LOVES historical novels... can't wait to tell her about this one.
Your cabbage soup looks good. I think I will stick with cabbage burgers though (o:
Sounds interesting. I haven't read any kind of book in a very long time. Hope you are having a great week. Tammy
Sounds like this could be right up my alley! I watched a documentary on Lincoln last year, I believe, & found out that he's been buried, exhumed, & reburied several times because of the threat to STEAL HIS BODY! Can you imagine?! My jaw was dropped throughout the entire show... Thank you for recommending this book =)
This sounds really interesting. I love history and I will have to put this on my reading list!
Now, I know I need to read this one, too. Thank you, Nanny!
I don't know why this post didn't show up in my sidebar. Glad I saw it beneath the harvest scene!! Have a great day! blessings ~ t.
This sounds like a book I'd be interested to read.
I recently saw a movie called "The Conspirators," directed by Robert Redford, that was about the people that were hanged after Lincoln's assassination. It was very well done!
